Lost Mining Villages

Barrmill Jolly Beggars Burns Club were delighted to recently receive a whopping cheque for £9,600 to carryout out a book project relating to the Lost Mining Villages of Doon Valley and culminate the project with the publication of a book. The idea for this project came about when several members attending the re-dedication of the war memorial at Benwhat. This village, abandoned in 1954, sits high about the Doon Valley and was occupied by miners and their families. At the re-dedication service over 100 people attended and this sparked the idea for a book about all of the Doon Valley’s lost villages.
